Dr. David Sponseller, an alumnus of St. Joseph Grade School, will be musically celebrating his 90th birthday with us on the weekend of October 2nd and 3rd. David will be singing sacred music as part of the musical preludes and also during the Saturday, 4:30 PM and Sunday, 10:30 AM Masses. His lifelong love of singing began in the fourth grade, when he joined the Raphael Choir as a boy before World War II. During his collegiate years, David was a member of the Notre Dame Glee Club. Dr. Sponseller has been a great benefactor over the years to our school, church, and music program, so be sure to wish him a Happy Birthday when you see him after the 4:30 or 10:30 Masses! To round out the “special events” next weekend, the Shekinah Ringers will be at the 8 AM Mass on Sunday, playing Standing on the Promises and Behold the Heavens. These two pieces are very different in mood and style, but they both use interesting techniques, including bell trees, “singing bells” and mallets. There will definitely be some exciting musical experiences next weekend at St. Joseph’s!
