WELCOME TO 4th GRADE

I’m Mrs. Sue Hug and I will be your child’s homeroom teacher. Mrs. Stoffer will be their Math and English teacher. This is my second year in Fourth Grade, having taught Second Grade for 18 years and Sixth Grade for 8 years. I look forward to working with you and your child this year. The following is a brief description of some of the topics we will cover this year.

RELIGION- The focus is on the Commandments, Beatitudes and Sacraments.

We will be attending Mass every Wednesday at 8:30 throughout the year. We encourage them to use their church envelopes.

SPELLING- A normal week will start with new words, alphabetical order, definitions and sentences on Monday; work in the book on Tuesday; writing 3 times each on Wednesday; play Sparkle for review on Thursday, and a test on Friday.

READING- As in previous years Spelling and Reading are connected. We will normally begin a new story each week. There will be vocabulary definitions for every story. Students are encouraged to reread the story independently. They will listen to the story on tape most Thursdays. They will have a test on Friday. Vocabulary definitions and story comprehension questions will be included. We will read 2 or 3 novels at various times throughout the year.

HEALTH/SCIENCE- We will begin our year with Science. We will continue developing skills in the areas of Life, Earth and Physical Science. Our year will end with one quarter of Health.

SOCIAL STUDIES- This year deals with Ohio History. We will learn about the early history of the state, famous people, our state’s natural resources and state symbols.
